You do not require previous musical knowledge or experience to learn the bagpipe. Oddly enough, you do not start on a bagpipe. You will start on the practice chanter. The practice chanter is a quiet training aid used to learn the complex finger work of piping before the student transitions to the full bagpipe

Hello Future Student:  Let's have some fun!!!   It’s surprisingly easy to start learning the bagpipes! All you need is a practice chanter, a book, and me! The practice chanter is a basic instrument with a single reed; you don't need to buy the bagpipes for a while. You’ll always use a practice chanter for basic practice and learning new tunes, so it’s a lasting investment. You just need a little time each day to practice to start learning the bagpipes. By the way, I work with each person according to their needs at the appropriate pace and aim to make lessons an enjoyable experience. With strong determination, children of all ages and adults can quickly learn to play the pipes. I allow ample time to thoroughly cover all materials to build a musical foundation to make the future brighter and more pleasant. I don't take the fast track at the expense of a student's education; an hour-long lesson may run into two hours with no extra charge. Great things happen over time!

Bagpipe lessons can be arranged for a day, time and location that is convenient for the student. Weekly, one-on-one lessons are encouraged especially for the first year. Instructional and practice sessions during that year are divided into two distinct phases. All the initial instruction, development of rudimentary embellishments, and memorization of the first 3–4 tunes are done on the practice chanter. Providing the student attends regular lessons and has a daily practice routine, they will be ready to transition to the bagpipes within 6–8 months. I will help guide you in the purchase of the appropriate chanter and set of bagpipes.
